NVQ Information Technology - Marketing Qualifications
Making eBusiness Easy
NVQ Information Technology

ITQ is an innovative NVQ for IT Users, with a unique ‘pick and mix’ design. It’s ideal for those in the workplace and in college, as it allows candidates to choose exactly which units best reflect their level of skill. There is even a bespoke unit that can be customised for specific applications so you can offer units to suit anyone’s needs.
ITQ - not just for the workplace
ITQ is suitable for anybody who uses IT and the flexible structure means that it can be adapted for almost any workplace or job. Evidence can be collected from naturally occurring IT activities that are undertaken for a specific and real purpose.
This means that, even though ITQ is an N/SVQ, learners don’t have to be in the workplace in order to achieve the qualification.
The purpose and general content of the end product may be specified by the end user however the candidate must select and use IT to achieve the end product. In many situations the end product will be specified by the candidate’s employer or client.
However, valid evidence can also arise from:
- the search for employment (eg CVs, job applications and emails to potential employers)
- social activities (eg club membership databases, posters and websites)
- enterprise activities (eg business plans, budgets and marketing materials)
- voluntary activities (eg cash flows, programmes and newsletters)
- learning and studying subjects other than IT (eg internet research for a geography assignment, reports/dissertations and presentations).
- It is for the assessor (assisted by the expert witness where relevant) to ensure that the activities were for a real purpose.
By the very nature of IT, work activities can be carried out in a variety of locations not confined to the traditional office setting.

e-skills UK, the Sector Skills Council for the ITQ, has provided clarification on the evidence that can be used for the Make Selective Use of IT.
“The ITQ evidences competence - the application of skills and knowledge in a real setting. In that it is different from other qualifications which cover only skills and knowledge. As a result evidence for the ITQ mandatory unit must be naturally occurring from IT activites undertaken for a specific and real purpose. This does not necessarily mean that candidates must be in paid employment.

Can we do any combination of units? |
Almost - the only restrictions are the inclusion of onemandatory unit (marked in bold) and that 60 per cent of the points must come from units at the level of the qualification being achieved. For example to achieve a level 2 ITQ 60 per cent of the required points must be generated from units at level 2.In fact, you can even use units from other qualificationsincluding e-Quals, to count towards City & Guilds’ ITQ. |
|
How will it meet the needs of my company? |
One of the units is a bespoke unit which can be customized to fit your own particular requirements. This means that you’ll be able to tailor it to your own specific applications. |
|
How is it delivered? |
City & Guilds’ ITQ can be done in house and on the job.Under the guidance of an Assessor, employees will simply build up a portfolio of evidence to meet the requirements of each unit. |
